ew Delhi: Fierce competition in the telecom sector post the entry of Reliance Jio is turning out to be a bonanza for customers. After significant tariff cuts in the domestic market, Airtel has now made incoming free for international roaming from countries such as the US, UK, Canada, Thailand and Malaysia.

The company has extended the offer to both pre-paid and post-paid customers and the international roaming packs -- available for Rs 649 and Rs 4,999 for key countries -- will also offer free texts to India and significant data benefits.

Charges for calls to India and local in-country calls have been reduced to as low as Rs 3 per minute across popular destinations.

Airtel also said that post the exhaustion of pack data benefits, international roaming data will now be charged at Rs 3/MB, a reduction of 99% from the Rs 650/MB charged earlier. "Customers can continue accessing their emails, social media, and websites on the go in a secure manner without having to wait for public Wi-Fi or free access," the company said.

The foreign roaming packs come with validity of one day and 30 days. The one-day post-paid pack costs Rs 649 while the monthly pack will come for Rs 4,999 for the US UK and Canada. These also have limited amount of free calling minutes to India.
